In 2016, we saw wellness take centre stage. With celebs like Gwyneth Paltrow, Natalie Portman, and Kat Von D talking openly about veganism, mindfulness and mental health, we’ve seen wellness become a more popular topic than ever before. 2016 brought us some great trends, such as the rise of ‘athleisure’, the casual but practical clothing style perfect for every day wear but comfortable enough to exercise or travel in. We saw an even bigger rise to online fitness superstars like Alice Living (‘Clean Eating Alice’) and Joe Wicks (‘Lean in 15’), who not only make fitness exciting again but have also thrown the “one-size-fits-all” rulebook out the window and have started making individual health and fitness plans for their clients. A more natural, holistic way of life has become mainstream – and we love it! So what does the New Year have to offer? We’ve had a look at the Top 5 Wellness Trends for 2017!
1. #NoMakeup Movement. Alicia Keyes famously came back into the spotlight with her ‘no makeup’ movement, which has quickly taken off (some calling it the ‘humble brag’, others a natural inspiration). Either way, it’s clear the no-makeup look is here to stay! The hashtag #NoMakeup has trended on Instagram and Twitter, and with skin care making twice the amount makeup does, it’s a safe assumption we’re all coveting that natural glow. Try Ekia Organic Radiance Serum for a brighter, more even complexion.
2. ‘Antipollution’ Products. People are no longer just after a health kick – they want to detox themselves, from the inside out but also with their skin care, too! More people than ever are starting to read labels on the back of packaging; we’re becoming more and more aware of what we’re putting on our faces. Try Natura Siberica Northern Soap Detox for Deep Facial Cleansing to help draw impurities from deep within the skin and leave skin feeling beautifully clean and fresh.
3. Collagen. You might have been putting it on your face for years, but 2017 is the year collagen will be ingested! It’s already popular in Korea to put a powder form in their cups of green tea, and now they’re popping up in health stores all over. If you’re a fan of this anti-aging wonder, try Natura Siberica Royal Caviar Collagen Wrinkle Filler.
4. Sobriety. Smoothies are up and alcohol is down – so much so that juice crawls are replacing bar crawls! We’re starting to notice the negative effects alcohol has on our bodies and minds, and alcohol-free activities are popping up in all major cities.
5. Meditation. As well as looking after the body, more people are starting to recognise the importance of looking after our minds, too. With mental health being more openly spoken about, meditation is a natural, easy way to incorporate calmness into our everyday lives and cope with the stresses of work and home life. Try practising it for 10-15 minutes a day before bed and you’ll notice a difference sooner than you think!
