So today's post is a little bit different - I decided to try a couple of products with a running theme... chocolate! Now for some reason chocolate is a beauty ingredient I've never got in board with. I thin kit's a bit of a gimic - chocolate is a food (and a damn good one), but is it really all that great as a beauty product? I though it was about time I found out! I chose to try all natural/organic products so I knew the chocolate was legit and not just a fake scent! Read on to see how I got on!
Faith in Nature Chocolate Hand Made Soap I was excited to try this one! It looks so cute, and smells really nice - a very authentic chocolatey smell! Made with an extract from Organic Cocoa Beans and infused with vanilla, it's very sweet (I can't help but think kids would love this!) but without being overpowering.
I certainly did the job - it cleaned well, it lathered up enough to get a satisfying amount on my hands, and it smelt nice. I'm still not totally sold on this though... I prefer cleaner scents, especially from soaps! They do an Orange one I think would be more up my street!
Giovanni Hot Chocolate Sugar Scrub
A scrub made with sugar and chocolate... sounds like a chocolate-lovers absolute dream, doesn't it? I didn't know what to expect from this one, but I must admit it smelt divine and was a nice, thick sugary texture to the touch. I quite like the packaging, too - it's not a normal tub shape (perfectly round), it was sort of... bent? Quite unusual, but somehow it worked! I used this as I would any other scrub; by applying a handful to skin whilst in the shower, gently massaging it into the skin, and washing off. I loved the consistency and texture of this scrub - it definitely felt like it was doing a good job, and my skin felt lovely and smooth after! I felt more comfortable using a chocolate-scented product on my skin in the shower, because I think if I were to apply a coconut-scented moisturiser afterwards, the two smells would layer really nicely and compliment each other. However, I have a LOT of moisturisers (I always use lotion after a shower), and I think the scent of this would clash with a couple of them.
Faith in Nature Chocolate Shampoo & Conditioner
I've been trying this for a couple of months now to really get the feel of it. I've been unsure how I've felt about this product for a while - I'm really particular about what I put on my hair, and once I find something I like, I stick to it! I'm always trying new things, but inevitably go back to my tried-and-tested, most effective products. So the first time I used this, I was surprised wit how well the shampoo "lathered" - I thought, being SLS free, it wouldn't create a lather I would be convinced by, but my hair still felt clean after use and it got right into the roots, so that was good! The conditioner does the job for sure, but I'm used to intense conditioners for quench my thirsty hair, and I'm afraid this wasn't "intense" enough for me. The smell isn't actually that "chocolatey", in my opinion! It's not overly sickly (a bonus), I can definitely smell chocolatey undertones but overall it's a fairly sweet, warm scent that isn't offensive and doesn't last when hair is dry. I'd like to use this once a month or so to "detox" my hair of products I use on the regular that aren't natural or organic. I think this would be FAB for kids - maybe the chocolatey scent will help convince them to wash, if they're difficult about it? Plus it's all natural and organic, so it's good for gentle and sensitive skin! Have you guys tried chocolate in beauty? What do you think? Meli X
