Chanel Rouge Coco Baume

Hey! Welcome back - or if you're new, welcomeeeee!

I love a good lip balm, so I was excited to finally get my hands on this bad boy. The Chanel Rouge Coco Baume comes in a svelte lipstick-style bullet with the classic logo on the lid. Here's Chanel's take:

"A moisturising balm for the lips. A soft, ultra-comfortable texture that melts away in an instant. Easy daily wear, quick to apply. Result: sheer, shiny makeup, moisturised lips all day long."

Well, they didn't go to town on the description, did they? Pretty brief and unexciting. What about the ingredients?

"ROUGE COCO BAUME is enriched with the "Hydratender" complex, composed of:

• Natural esters (components of the NMF*) to immediately moisturise the lips. • A Meadowfoam oil derivative to protect and maintain hydration for 8 hours straight.** • Phyto-ceramides that protect and smooth the lips by imitating the skin's ceramides. The combination of waxes and phytosterols of botanical origin creates a watery makeup effect with intense shine. Amino-ceramides deliver heightened moisturisation, while repairing and protecting the lips."

...Also pretty brief and unexciting!

So how does it compare to its underwhelming description?

Well... it's pretty unexciting in person, too.

I'm not sure what I was expecting; something luxurious that smelt incredible and lasted for hours. In reality, the packaging is great (as you'd expect from Chanel), but the product itself is... dare I say it cheap?

Bare in mind, this lip balm is £31. It is FARRRR from cheap! So you'd expect something pretty exceptional for that sort of money.

Unfortunately, for me this balm massively falls short. It has a synthetic, coconutty scent to it. It feels... like a balm. Nothing exciting, but a bog standard hydrating balm you can pick up from Boots for a fraction of the price.

In fact, you can get one remarkably similar from Burts Bees - and it only costs £3.99. It smells almost identical, and the texture is exactly the same. This Burts Bees hydrating balm has been my car balm (am I the only person to do this? Keep a lip balm in their car just in case...?) for ages!

Don't get me wrong, this Chanel balm is nice. But that's all it is - nice. When you spend so much on something, and that something has such a premium brand name attached to it, you expect something truly exceptional. But I just feel this isn't worth the price point.

Having said that, the Burts Bees £3.99 version is definitely worth the price - I'll be repurchasing as soon as I've finished my first one! Melissa x
